Cường độ của trận động đất là 7.2 (Mw) trận động đất xảy ra trong nội địa vào ngày 23 tháng 10 năm 2011 lúc 13:41 giờ địa phương, [[tâm chấn]] khoảng 16&nbsp;km (9 dặm) phía bắc-đông bắc của thành phố Van của Thổ Nhĩ Kỳ và ở độ sâu trọng tâm khoảng 20&nbsp;km (12,4 dặm).
