Many Vietnameses who are lazy to read admit the name "Annam" (安南) as a stigma. It is in regard to the Chinese domination of Vietnam about one thousands years. The name "Annam" had originated in Tang period with "An" of "Chang'an" (長安). It didn't mean in the politic.<br>When France ruled Indochina, I thinked, French people called "Annam" because it was easy for pronunciation. I was also jocular by Vietnamese Wikipedia.
