Thủ phủ của châu là [[Cảnh Hồng]] (''Jinghong''), nằm trên bờ sông [[Mê Kông]] (sông [[Mê Kông|Lan Thương]] trong tiếng Trung). Là trung tâm du lịch của Trung Quốc cùng với Côn Minh - 2 trung tâm du lịch lớn nhất của Vân Nam. Có vị trí ngang với tỉnh [[Lai Châu]] của [[Việt Nam]] - có địa hình thấp hơn [[Hà Giang]]
