Thị xã được thành lập năm 1851 làm trung tâm hành chính cho một khu vực canh tác màu mỡ sản xuất trái cây họ cam quýt, thuốc lá, [[đậu phộng]], hạt hướng dương, [[ngô]], lúa mì và gia súc.
