Clausewitz là một người có óc thực tế trong nhiều nghĩa khác nhau và, trong một vài khía cạnh là lãng mạn, cũng đã đưa tới nhiều ý tưởng duy lí chủ nghĩa của thời đại Khai sáng ở châu Âu.
