Nó bắt nguồn từ [[Ukraina]], được hình thành gần [[Rakhiv]] và chảy dọc biên giới [[România]] và chảy vào [[Hungary]] tại [[Tiszabecs]]; ở hạ nguồn, con sông đánh dấu biên giới giữa [[Slovakia]] và Hungary, chảy qua Hungary và đổ vào sông [[Sông Donau|Danube]] ở bắc [[Serbia]] ([[Vojvodina]]). Tại đây, con sông hình thành nên ranh giới giữa vùng [[Bačka]] và [[Banat]]. Con sông cũng hình thành nên một phần biên giới giữa Hungary và Ukraina cũng như biên giới giữa Hungary và Serbia.
