'''Murein''' is a [[biochemical]] which is a large constituent of [[cell wall]]s in [[prokaryote]]s. It serves to make the cell wall rigid due to it's structure - it is a [[polysaccharide]], which line up in chains linked by [[amino acid]]s. This rigidity is necessary to prevent the cell from bursting by water upon [[osmosis]]. It contains [[nitrogen]] and is structurally similar to [[chitin]].
