Sony Pictures Classics
Sony Pictures Classics (viết tắt là SPC) là công ty sản xuất và phân phối phim của Mỹ, bộ phận của Sony Pictures, được thành lập vào năm 1992 bởi cựu Orion Classics đứng đầu là Michael Barker cùng với Tom Bernard và Marcie Bloom (tương tự như Searchlight Pictures và Focus Features).[2] SPC phân phối, sản xuất và mua lại các bộ phim chuyên ngành như phim tài liệu, phim độc lập và phim nghệ thuật ở Hoa Kỳ và quốc tế. Tính đến năm 2015, Barker và Bernard là đồng chủ tịch của bộ phận này.

Lịch sử sửa
Sony Pictures Classics được thành lập vào năm 1992, bởi Michael Barker, Tom Bernard, và Marcie Bloom, một bộ phận độc lập của Sony Pictures. Mô hình của công ty là sản xuất, mua và/hoặc phân phối các phim độc lập, phim tài liệu, phim nghệ thuật từ Hoa Kỳ và quốc tế.[3]
Sony Pictures Classics được biết như là một công ty đầu tư hợp lý cho các bộ phim nhỏ và thu được lợi nhuận khá.[4][5] SPC thường không chi tiêu quá mức.[6] Thành công thương mại lớn nhất năm 2011 là Midnight in Paris của Woody Allen, thu về hơn 56 triệu USD ở Mỹ, trở thành bộ phim có doanh thu cao nhất của Allen từ trước đến nay tại Hoa Kỳ.
Thỉnh thoảng, Sony Pictures Classics đồng ý phát hành phim cho tất cả các phòng thu phim của Sony; tuy nhiên, theo cấu trúc của Sony Pictures Classics trong Sony, tất cả các bộ phận khác của Sony (bao gồm cả công ty mẹ) không thể ép buộc Sony Pictures Classics phát hành bất kỳ bộ phim nào mà bộ phận không muốn phát hành.
