Là một sắc tộc [[Kitô giáo]], đa số người Assyria thuộc về các [[Kitô giáo Đông phương|Giáo hội Đông phương]], theo các nghi lễ phụng vụ [[nghi lễ Đông Syria|Đông Syria]] và [[nghi lễ Tây Syria|Tây Syria]]. Về mặt lịch sử, các tín hữu [[Giáo hội Phương Đông Assyria]], [[Giáo hội Phương Đông Thủ cựu]] và [[Giáo hội Công giáo Chaldea]] tập trung tại các khu vực nay là bắc Iraq, tây bắc Iran, và tây nam Thổ Nhĩ Kỳ; trong khi đó các tín hữu [[Giáo hội Chính thống giáo Syria]] và [[Giáo hội Công giáo Syria]] tập trung tại nam Thổ Nhĩ Kỳ, bắc Syria và bắc Iraq.
