Nhà thờ chính tòa mới của Saint Ambrose đã được xây dựng trên khu vực này vào đầu thế kỷ thứ 5, tiếp giáp với một nhà thờ được thêm vào trong 836. Khi một đám cháy làm hỏng cả hai tòa nhà trong năm 1075, các tòa nhà này sau đó đã được xây dựng lại như nhà thờ hiện nay.
